Real Wedding: Paul + Jenn | The Ivy Place | Magnolia Events | Charlotte Wedding Planner

When we first met Paul and Jenn, we knew their wedding was going to be special. Not only could you see how much they loved each other, but their affection for family and friends was so moving. The couple had lost two of their closest friends, and since they couldn’t be there to celebrate with them, wanted to cherish their memories during the wedding. The result was a truly beautiful event, which blended Paul and Jenn’s personal style with a celebration of the love that filled their lives.

Paul and Jenn chose to get married at The Ivy Place in Lancaster. With its cozy, historic home and acres of natural beauty, it’s the perfect setting for an intimate wedding. The couple said their “I dos” under an old oak tree, which we decorated with hanging vases of purple hydrangeas. Instead of a traditional aisle runner, we worked with Springvine Designs to create a winding aisle of red rose petals, which ended in an intricate heart design at the altar.

Alongside being a beautiful space for the ceremony, the oak tree became a sentimental nod to the bride’s friend. One of the bridesmaids designed a tree tattoo in honor of her memory, which all of the girls that knew her now have. Although it’s not obvious to the eye, the branches contain the initials of all the girls, including the friend who passed. With this in mind, trees were an important part of the wedding décor, and this design was included in the bouquet wraps, the candleholders, and the cake from Wow Factor Cakes. As a nod to Paul’s friend, some of the candleholders featured theatrical masks with a tear.

With details as important as these, we wanted to do something special to showcase them. By designing a unique backdrop behind the cake table, we were able to create an eye-catching display for the bouquets and candleholders, while also making a soft, romantic addition to the decor.

On the tables we used alternating centerpieces of red roses and hydrangeas. Some guests were seated with two tiers of red velvet roses in mercury glass vases, while others enjoyed 6ft hydrangea and curling willow arrangements. To add more ambience, the hydrangea arrangements were decorated with hanging tealights.

Food was another important part of the couple’s day, and along with Queen City Catering, we designed a variety of stations to keep everyone mingling. Guests could choose from surf and turf, pasta, and a carving station. We particularly loved the salad station, which dressed up traditional salads by serving them in martini glasses. As a nod to her Maryland heritage, the bride also included crab cakes for the cocktail hour.  For the final course, guests enjoyed a selection of dessert shooters, like banana pudding, pineapple upside down cake, and chocolate raspberry.

The night was full of love and personal touches, and we’re absolutely smitten with the photos from Red K Photography. Not only did Kelli and Dana capture the love between our bride and groom, but also the powerful relationships with their guests. Take a peek at some of the pictures from this beautiful wedding and thank you to Red K Photography for letting us share them.

Travel Theme Corporate Event | Magnolia Events | Charlotte, NC Event Planner

We were thrilled when Hutchison Group called on us again to plan their 2014 annual social. Planning for the future is a key part of what Hutchison Group offers to their clientele. When brainstorming ideas for this event I couldn’t help but think about what I wanted to do in the future. TRAVEL! I want to travel the world and eat fabulous food that is perfectly paired with a glorious beverage.

On the beautiful evening on May 1st we brought the world to Rock Hill, South Carolina.  To bring the different countries to Brakefield at Riverwalk, and really wow the guests, we made food the main focus of this travel theme corporate event. With the help of Queen City Catering, we put together an extensive menu of food from around the world. For the Mediterranean station, guests enjoyed shooters of Peach Sangria, Lamb Skewers with Mint Tzatziki, a Mediterranean Layered Dip made with hummus, and Eggplant Fontina Napoleon. At the Asian station, freshly cooked Soba noodles were served in a Ginger Sesame Sauce and paired with Green Tea Spritzers. At the next stop in Germany, guests indulged in brats and Warsteiner Pilsner, then hopped on over to Italy for a selection of paninis, including Garden Fresh Caprese, the Classic Italian, and Chicken Parmesan. As a complement to the Italian vineyards, guests were also served tasting cups of Antinori Santa Cristina Toscana.

Of course, no trip around the world is complete without dessert, so for our final station we offered Pistachio and Chocolate Chip Cannolis.

To create an around the world look we tied cultural styles into each station. In Italy, for example, we channeled the corner cafes with red and white checkered linens and cafe lights. For Germany, we drew our inspiration from the traditional beer gardens, hanging a biergarten sign above the table and using blue and white colors throughout. In Asia we suspended parasols and Chinese lanterns for an eye-catching backdrop. At the Mediterranean station, we incorporated columns, which resembled those seen in ancient Mediterranean architecture.

We wanted to do something different when it came to the dessert station. Instead of focusing on one country, we designed an around the world look. Using pages from an atlas, we created a rosette banner and hung it as a focal point on the fireplace. As a finishing touch, we used decorative luggage to display the decadent Cannolis.

To give guests clues towards the theme, we had everyone RSVP with their dream vacation spot and featured a koala on the save the dates and invitations. It wasn’t until they arrived, however, that the clues fell into place. Guests were invited to pin their dream vacation spot on a Hutchison Group map, which is now hanging in the company’s office.

Everyone left with a travel book and their very own Sydney (a stuffed Koala). As a fun way to stay connected, Hutchison Group encouraged pictures of Sydney’s travels on their social media pages. How fun is that idea?

We had a blast creating this fun, travel theme corporate event for Hutchison Group and look forward to next year.World-map-travel-theme-eventtravel-theme-decorations-bannertravel-mappeach-sangria-mocktailmagnolia-events-corporate-event-travel-themeitalian-cannoli-travel-dessert-stationBiergartenasian-food-station-travel-event-theme

Once Upon a Shower | Magnolia Events | Storybook Baby Shower

Growing up, Jessica always wanted a library in her house. So when it came time to plan her baby shower, her family knew there was no better theme than storybooks. Not only would the couple be able to build their son’s library, but it was personal to the mother-to-be’s own childhood.

Jessica and Forrest were a former bride and groom of ours, so we were thrilled to help them in celebrating their baby boy too. Together with their families, we started our design concept with the food, where we used inspiration from nursery rhymes and children’s classics to create themed appetizers. Guests enjoyed “How Does Your Garden Grow” ranch and hummus dips, “Three Blind Mice” cheese platters, “Three Little Pigs” pigs in a blanket, “Little Boy Blue” haystacks, “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star” chicken salad sandwiches, and “Humpty Dumpty” deviled eggs. We particularly adored the “Hey Diddle Diddle” moon sandwiches. Filled with pimento cheese, they played on the childhood belief of a moon made out of cheese.

Sylvia’s Cakes & Things provided the charming storybook cake, which featured “Mother Goose,” “Humpty Dumpty,” and a personalized story just for the family. They also designed an assortment of cupcakes with sparkling moon and star toppers. As a complement to the themed appetizers and desserts, we created a beverage station with “Jack and Jill” fruit water and “The Ugly Duckling” lemonade.

A collection of children’s books, book food stands, and a darling Mother Goose all kept the storybook feel to the decor. We even got a little crafty and designed food labels to look like vintage book covers. For a simple, but eye-catching backdrop, we finished the room with a DIY banner made from children’s book pages.

As an unexpected surprise, Mother Goose even made an appearance at the shower! Jessica’s mother kicked off the event in an adorable Mother Goose outfit, and Jessica and her guests laughed along with the fun.

We’re delighted to kick off our event season with such a charming shower and to celebrate Jessica’s and Forrest’s baby boy with them. To see more of the enchanting details from Jessica’s shower, take a peek at some of the pictures we took below.
